Description:  European Beech is very uniform in color and is typically a pale cream color.  For an imported specie, it’s economically priced. We stock flat cut and quarter sawn lumber.

Cumaru

Common Name:  Cumaru

Scientific Name:  Dipteryx odorata

Description:  Also known as Brazilian Teak, it is difficult to work with. It contains silica, which dulls cutters and a high oil content which presents gluing difficulties.

Bubinga

Common Name:  Bubinga

Scientific Name:  Guibourtia spp.

Description:  Bubinga is also referred to as African Rosewood.  It is an extremely beautiful wood that lends itself to fine furniture, cabinetry, turnings, and inlays.

Bloodwood

Common Name:  Bloodwood

Scientific Name:  Brosimum rubescens

Description:  Bloodwood is also known as Satine.  Whereas the final product can result in a lustrous red finish, Bloodwood is very hard on cutting tools.

Spanish Cedar

Common Name:  Spanish Cedar

Scientific Name:  Cedrela odorata

Description:  Spanish Cedar is not a true cedar.  Density and mechanical properties can vary widely depending on country of origin.

Sapele*

Common Name:  Sapele

Scientific Name:  Entandrophragma cylindricum

Description: Sapele is also referred to as Sapele Mahogany and is a major export of Africa.  Sapele is far more consistent in color, texture, and workability than African Mahogany. We stock both flat cut and quarter sawn lumber.

Purpleheart

Common Name:  Purpleheart

Scientific Name:  Peltogyne spp.

Description:  Also called Amaranth, this colorful Latin American wood is perfectly suited for unique projects that require a splash of color.

Makore

Common Name:  Makore

Scientific Name:  Tieghemella heckelii

Description:  Makore is also marketed as Cherry Mahogany.  It’s a dense hardwood that has a dulling effect on cutters due to it’s high silica content.

Jatoba

Common Name:  Jatoba

Scientific Name:  Hymenaea courbaril

Description:  Jatoba is also known as Brazilian Cherry.  It is very hard and is commonly used as flooring.

Genuine Mahogany

Common Name:  Genuine Mahogany

Scientific Name:  Swietenia macrophylla

Description:  Genuine Mahogany is commonly referred to as Honduran Mahogany.  Most of the Genuine Mahogany we stock is grown on plantations.
